MAPA STEM is an evidence-based professional development organization transforming how scientists, health professionals, and institutions prepare for the future of STEM and public health fields. Through mentoring, professional development, leadership training, and institutional partnerships, we empower individuals to navigate every stage of their careers with clarity, confidence, and purpose.
Every year, thousands of talented students complete rigorous scientific and academic training — yet receive little guidance on career exploration, leadership, networking, communication, or how to navigate an increasingly diverse job market.
The current workforce in the STEM and healthcare sectors requires mentorship, leadership, professional networks, communication skills, and career readiness — competencies rarely taught through traditional scientific training.
Our model moves professionals through three continuous stages — explore, plan, grow — looping back as careers evolve, industries shift, and new decisions arise.
Move beyond the "pipeline" or single-career-path model and evaluate the multiple paths available.
Purpose: expand knowledge regarding the numerous careers available within STEM and healthcare ecosystems.
Once the diversity of the career landscape is understood, a personalized strategy is needed. This is where MAPA STEM makes the difference.
Professional growth is rarely the result of a single mentor. Success stems from a network of mentors, colleagues, collaborators, sponsors, educators, industry leaders, and communities that support individuals throughout the various stages of their careers. Aimed especially at educators, academic advisors, and mentors.
Most mentorship happens informally, if it happens at all. MAPA STEM replaces chance encounters with a structured, evidence-based system.
| Traditional Mentorship | MAPA STEM |
|---|---|
| One mentor | Mentorship ecosystem |
| Academic only | Academia + Industry + Healthcare |
| Unstructured | Evidence-based framework |
| English only, or Spanish only | Bilingual by design |

Every program is informed by published research on mentorship, leadership, workforce development, and career transitions.
Founded by scientists who have built international careers across academia, translational research, and industry.
We work alongside institutions — not outside them — to complement, not duplicate, existing student and staff support.
Long-term success depends on relationships and belonging as much as knowledge — so community is built in, not bolted on.
MAPA STEM was co-founded by researchers who have lived the transitions they now teach — from choosing a scientific vocation to translating a career across borders, sectors, and languages.
Translational scientist and cancer researcher with over 15 years of experience driving precision oncology globally. Dr. Erazo holds a PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Her postdoctoral work led to a cancer therapy that has advanced to Phase 2b/3 clinical trials for pancreatic cancer.
Dr. Erazo leads global initiatives that advance precision medicine through innovation, collaboration, and education. She collaborates with international partners to implement scalable solutions that improve access to cancer care worldwide. Additionally, she has mentored more than 15 scientists at various career stages, ranging from undergraduate to postdoctoral levels.
"Great careers are not built by chance. They are built through purpose, preparation, and the right mentorship."
A neuroscientist and STEM education leader with 14+ years in laboratory research and over a decade guiding students through university transition. Since 2017 she has served as Head of Science and Academic Advisor at Liceu Politècnic School in Barcelona.
She founded the Scientific Seminar Program in 2018, bringing 35+ active researchers into secondary classrooms across eight editions, and has mentored students into Bojos per la Ciència, Catalonia's top STEM talent program — one of the most selective of its kind, admitting only a small cohort each year. Her guidance has contributed to their successful entry into STEM and Healthcare programs at top Spanish universities.
"Scientific vocations are not discovered; they are cultivated through curiosity, guidance, and meaningful opportunities for growth."
These results stem from Dr. Erazo's mentoring experience in New York and from international educational programs.
"Dr. Erazo's mentorship transformed my confidence as a young scientist. She taught me to think independently, embrace responsibility, and approach research with resilience and scientific rigor."
These outcomes come from Dr. Enríquez-Barreto's mentorship pathway in Barcelona.

MAPA STEM integrates with existing support infrastructure rather than replacing it, and offers the modularity needed to start at a single level or scale across the entire organization.

Whether you represent an institution ready to offer its students and faculty a structured, bilingual mentorship model, or you are seeking guidance for your own journey in STEM and healthcare, MAPA STEM begins at the same starting point: a conversation.
No two journeys are alike, and the path shouldn't be, either. Tell us where you stand and where the horizon seems uncertain. From there, we will help you find the right route.
